BART / AC Transit

We are embarking on a unique opportunity to look at some of the most interesting and unexplored aspects of ridership in the AC Transit and BART systems. Our User Experience study will focus on the aspects of ridership with the most impact. Thousands take public transit every day in the Bay Area, and there is a wealth of knowledge to be learned from these users.

Our Approach

Users were recruited over the web and screened based on their transit habits. We selected an equal number of users who took Ac Transit, BART, and both, as part of their journey. Each user was then scheduled (based on their convenience) for a "ride-along" session, in which an EchoUser User Experience Engineer accompanied them for a ride from start to finish. During each session, observations were recorded, user experience metrics were collected (based on our Magnitude Estimation methodology) during key events of their transit experience, and finally standard survey style questions were asked.

Delivering Value

Perform general analysis of event-based user experience in transit

Prioritized, observed user experience issues will be pinpointed based on the analysis

User opinions and field observations are used to propose potential solutions to the above user experience issues

For further exploration, web-based "Wisdom of The Crowds" study will be used to harness the public knowledge surrounding these issues.
